Testimonials & Birth Stories

BROOK & Nathan

As a first time mom, I was not sure what to expect from a doula, and uncertain that I even wanted one to join my partner and me in such a personal journey. However, from the first few minutes of our phone conversation, I knew Jasmine would be the knowledgeable and supportive member of my birth team that I needed to bring our child into the world.

Not only was Jasmine intuitive and extremely helpful in working toward achieving our birth plan, but she had a sixth sense about some emotional barriers I needed to address in order to fully begin labor. She was a tremendous resource for my partner and myself leading up to, during, and after delivery. She took the time to really get to know us and our hopes and goals and curtailed her approach to guiding us with that in mind. I felt like I had a champion in my corner, especially when my plans did not pan out as I originally hoped.

My midwife had never worked with her before, but after our time together in labor and delivery, she asked me for Jasmine's contact information because she so enjoyed working with her too.

In addition to being a doula, Jasmine is also a massage therapist. I've had multiple prenatal massages with her - all of which left me feeling more relaxed and centered than almost any other time in my pregnancy. A few days after we delivered our son, Jasmine came over to help us with breastfeeding because, yes, she is also working to become a lactation counselor.

She's the trifecta of doulas! And a wonderful, warm lady to boot!

Jasmine was recommended to me by a friend who used her for her doula services for her twin birth. I was hesitant at first about having a doula for the birth of my son - mostly because I wanted it to keep it a personal experience between my husband and I. I also wasn't entirely sure how useful having one would be.

Looking back now, I cannot imagine the birth experience without Jasmine being there to guide me and also my husband along. She was the perfect balance of caring, natural, and informative about the entire process. Her techniques, her touch, her words and encouragement were invaluable during the birth process. Jasmine helped me to see that I had the strength and courage to give birth naturally and have the experience that I wanted.

The day I went into labor, I felt her strong and reliable presence, her warm support and her ability to help guide me into a natural childbirth with my son. I never doubted things wouldn't go perfectly with Jasmine there. And they did! I never felt like she was interfering with the personal experience my husband and I were having with the birth. On the contrary, the bonding between my son, husband and I as a family started strong and beautifully right then and there with Jasmine's support and guidance.

Jasmine is an expert at her craft-- I can't recommend her more highly. She is also an amazing massage therapist so we continue to see each other even now.

I was very happy to have had Jasmine for support during and before the birth of my son Wesley last August. We met several times ahead of the birth, she made herself available, and we discussed and planned the logistics of my birth. Jasmine’s support was calm, gentle and positive, never pushy. I knew that I could have a vaginal non-medicated delivery, and I’d read Ina May’s books and found them very useful, but at 41 years old there is pressure to use medication, and/or the idea that things may not go well.

Right before the birth, I went to her home and had a relaxing (and much needed!) massage--she is a trained masseuse as well, and I’d had months of pain in my hip areas. She came right before to give me acupressure when I was close to a week overdue. I went into labor one week after my due date. She was there when I was in the entryway having contractions, and she gave me crucial massage and support during my entire 12 hour labor as well!

With Jasmine’s support, I was encouraged to change both my doctor and my hospital, as I was not comfortable with asking my doctor questions and I had a negative tour of my the original hospital--I am pretty sure that doing this, along with her (and my husband’s) constant support during my birth led to a medication and complication free birth. I was not closed to the idea of medication, but I did it with her support and felt incredible immediately after the birth of my son--that I did it! It was possible! and that I felt really good. I know this may not be the case for everyone, but I now recommend a doula to anyone I know who is going to have a baby.

We couldn’t have made a better doula choice than Jasmine. She’s the perfect combination of relaxed birthing magic and informed team player. We enjoyed all of our sessions leading up to the big day and she was a huge help during the final few weeks of my pregnancy when it was hard to even walk. (She’s a gifted masseuse! You won’t regret pre-natal massages with her!) When I went into labor, she was in sync with us every step of the way. In the toughest moments, she calmly guided us through the decision making process, and as a result I don’t regret any of the choices we made that deviated from the birth plan. We love that she’s part of our story and can’t imagine it any other way.

The moment we met Jasmine we knew she was the doula for us. We felt like we were talking to an old friend! Jasmine has a genuine respect and appreciation for birth, and a nonjudgmental approach that put our preferences first. This outlook empowered us to imagine and advocate for the birth that we wanted. When labor started, Jasmine was right there with us every single step of the way, offering words of encouragement, comforting touch, and breathing techniques. We couldn't be happier to have shared this singular and life-changing experience with her.

Jasmine Spacher was my doula for the birth of my second son, Roman. She was indispensable. I often think about my labor and it's never without the thought, "I couldn't have done it without Jasmine." Roman was born 3 1/2 weeks early, on the 4th of July. Although it was before her on-call time frame for my pregnancy, she came over as soon as I asked her to and stayed with me overnight while I labored.  She was with me every step of the way and got me through the really rough contractions by massaging my lower back and giving me encouraging words. There were times when I didn't think I could make it, but she somehow talked me through it and I was able to have the drug-free birth I wanted. She's not only an excellent doula but she's also a really sweet person, I'm so glad I met her. I just can't say enough about how amazing and special she is. A friend of mine referred her to me, and I'm constantly recommending her as a doula to my pregnant friends.

From the first moment we met Jasmine, we knew she was the doula for us. Her presence was warm and grounded; she brought a calm energy with her that was reassuring. Our twin birth adventure was hospital-bound and included several parameters that Jasmine worked around and through. With two babes head down and approaching 38 weeks, we had scheduled an induction upon the advice of our medical practice.

As active labor started, Jasmine arrived and quickly transformed the hospital room into a new space. She used aromatherapy and massage to change the energy of the room and which allowed my husband a much-needed break. The pressure to make progress can make the induction process nerve-wracking, however we remained hopeful for a vaginal birth throughout the duration of labor. With Jasmine's support, we were able to move into difficult labor positions and support us in decisions that helped us get to the wonderful place we had hoped for. Our girls arrived happy and healthy and head-first with Jasmine by our sides.

During our postpartum visit, I told her that I felt like I hadn't looked at her at all during the most intense parts of my labor. I had been so focused on my husband in those moments that I had only been looking at him. She reminded us that that's what her job was. Jasmine had been there behind us, doing exactly what only a doula can do: being a calm, supportive, and ever-present hand on your shoulder or back or wherever you might need...or not even know you need.

Jasmine assisted me at the birth of my daughter and her help, support and guidance was an invaluable part of my experience. My labor was precipitous (about 5 hours from beginning of contractions to the birth of my daughter) and much of it felt out of control because it was all happening so fast. Jasmine's calm presence grounded me, helped me feel a sense of control over my body, and allowed me to be present for the beauty of the moment, despite the pain. She held my hand, delivered a steady stream of encouragement and guided me in breathing through the contractions. Of the many wonderful things that Jasmine brought to the day that was probably her single most valuable contribution.

Her coaching helped me stay ahead of the contractions and work with my body rather than against it. I had chosen not to have pain medication and she supported me in that decision and advocated for me with the labor nurses, who seemed to just want to give me an epidural to quiet me down. I also had prenatal massage with Jasmine during my pregnancy which helped me feel very comfortable with her. As a first time mother I valued the information she provided about what to expect at each step of my pregnancy, birth and postnatal period, and she explained my options to help me develop a birth plan that I felt prepared with. Though my plan mostly went out the window because my labor was so fast, Jasmine had prepared me for that idea too so it didn't seem like a failure, but rather part of my individual experience. I recommend her involvement as a doula without reservation and am glad and grateful that she was part of my daughter's birth.
